If I’d been honest

If not for the cold metal in your hand
I’d have told you all the things
You didn’t want to hear when you questioned me.

If I’d been honest
The the truths would have hurt you
But you would have known me
And that I’d cared

But if I’d been honest
You wouldn’t have let me walk away
From that weapon in your hand
And the hatred in your face.
